The cannon is an exotic fruit much quoted on the international markets, known popularly how "fruit covers with stars" or "star fruit".

It belongs to the family of the Oxalidáceas. Also, according to his origin, it receives different names: in the Dominican Republic, "five fingers"; in Costa Rica, "tiriguro"; in Brazil, "caramboleiro" and in Venezuela, "Chinese traffic cop" or "sweet traffic cop". It is a fruit with a very nice form, of big employment in the decoration of diverse exquisite plates.


The cannon is an original and proper fruit of Indonesia and Malaysia. His cultivation has spread to other tropical countries of Asia and America. The principal producing countries nowadays are Thailand, Brazil, Colombia and Bolivia.

The cannon and the bilimbín, both fruits of similar forms, are the two only varieties that produce the plants that belong to the family of the Oxalidáceas.

It forms: it has a very curious, oval, elongated form, with five edges or wings and, to the cut, of star of five tops.

Size and weight: it is of small size, with a length that it ranges between 7 and 12 centimeters.

Color: it has a thin, glossy and eatable skin, of color between green or golden and yellow - orange when it is mature. The pulp is creaking, of soft texture and yellow glassy.

Flavor: the pulp has few ones or no seed, it is abundant, creaking, juicy and with a thin sweet and sour flavor. The big fruits of the cannon are tastier and sweet than the smallest, with a more sweet and more sour flavor.


To verify that it is mature, we will concentrate on his color and on the singings. If the fruit has a color between yellow and orange and the singings are a little darkened, it means that the fruit is mature.

It is preferable to preserve it in a fresh place, far from the direct contact with the light of the sun. - 1 kiwi
- 2 papayas
