The cannon is an exotic fruit much quoted on the international markets, known popularly how "fruit covers with stars" or "star fruit".

It belongs to the family of the Oxalidáceas. Also, according to his origin, it receives different names: in the Dominican Republic, "five fingers"; in Costa Rica, "tiriguro"; in Brazil, "caramboleiro" and in Venezuela, "Chinese traffic cop" or "sweet traffic cop". It is a fruit with a very nice form, of big employment in the decoration of diverse exquisite plates.




ORIGIN AND VARIETIES


The cannon is an original and proper fruit of Indonesia and Malaysia. His cultivation has spread to other tropical countries of Asia and America. The principal producing countries nowadays are Thailand, Brazil, Colombia and Bolivia.

The cannon and the bilimbín, both fruits of similar forms, are the two only varieties that produce the plants that belong to the family of the Oxalidáceas.

CHARACTERISTICS

It forms: it has a very curious, oval, elongated form, with five edges or wings and, to the cut, of star of five tops.

Size and weight: it is of small size, with a length that it ranges between 7 and 12 centimeters.

Color: it has a thin, glossy and eatable skin, of color between green or golden and yellow - orange when it is mature. The pulp is creaking, of soft texture and yellow glassy.

HOW TO CHOOSE IT AND TO PRESERVE IT

It is preferable to preserve it in a fresh place, far from the direct contact with the light of the sun. Ingredients

- 2 cannons
- 1 kiwi
- 2 papayas
- 2 bananas (or in his place, 6-8 bananitos)
- 1 orange
- The juice of 1-2 limes and sugar

To peel and to sting the bananas (or bananitos) and the kiwi and to cut in tracks the cannons. To spray everything with the juice of lime and orange together with the sugar. To cut the papayas for the half, to withdraw the seeds, to peel and trocear the pulp. To mix all the fruits troceadas in a receptacle and to place the miscellany in glasses.
